🚼 Mindset change is important

πŸ§‘β€πŸ’» tech

As humans, we are set in our ways. At least I am, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, when we decide to embark on a change, we also need to accept that things will be different. Different doesn't mean bad, or different doesn't mean good. Different means different.

When undertaking a change, one must expect consequences. Having the mindset of accepting this makes the process freeing and increases your chances of success.

I watch a lot of YouTube videos. I noticed a trend where Youtubers review Android phones, but after their testing period, revert to their iPhones. Despite all their positive comments, sometimes, it amazes me why not keep using it? I think the intention was not there to switch. The intention was always to go back to their iPhone. This mindset from the outset clouds their judgment. At least that is what it seems to me.

The reviews could be more informative if the reviewers approached them with an open mindset towards switching to Android. By doing so, they would discover new workflows and experiences, giving themselves the opportunity to try things differently. Instead, we get the same pointed repeated by most of them. I am not naΓ―ve. It's their job to review and they do not want to change their workflows. Occasionally, you find someone wants to switch and their reviews are significantly better.Β

I have embarked on my journey involving a significant change in my tech stake. I recently bought a Microsoft Surface Pro. It is a two in one device, a laptop and also a tablet. This kind of device does not exist in the Apple ecosystem. Therefore, if I want to experience a desktop class operating system with desktop class software in a tablet form factor, Windows is my only option. This means the consequence is ending my exclusivity with Apple.

I embarked on this journey knowing things will be different, and in certain aspects, it will be worse. Software is one such aspect. For example, Netflix on the iPad allows offline viewing, but on the Surface Pro it does not. Mind you, Netflix also does not allow offline viewing on Macs.

The other downside will be the lack of my macOS favourite apps. Raycast, which I recently added to my toolkit, is macOS only. However, having a positive mindset allowed me to find alternatives and so far, I have found a great one which is community supported and open-source - Flow Launcher. I had the drive to find alternatives because I have the mindset of using Windows for the long haul. Actually, to be honest, my mindset at the moment is being platform agnostic, meaning I should be able to do what I need to do on any platform. As someone who enjoys tech, this mindset allows me to try different devices and have unique experiences along the way.

I want to emphasize the significance of mindset when it comes to making any change.

This has been on my mind so I figured, best to explore it further and this is a start of this exploration.
